Lisl Wagner-Bacher
Lisl Wagner-Bacher was literally born into her profession. Her parents operated the Landhaus when Lisl was born. After taking over the establishment from them, she cooked herself up a reputation in only a few years as being the best female chef in the country.
And now after two Michelin stars, five stars and 98 points from A la Carte, and three chefs hats and 18 points from Gault Millau, Lisl Wagner-Bacher is known as the undisputed Grande Dame of Austrian dining today.
No one before her better understood how to combine the finest ingredients into an unmistakable cuisine with regional and Mediterranean accents. Together with her husband Klaus, who is responsible for the smooth service and unique wine selection, she turned Landhaus Bacher into Wachaus ultimate gourmet restaurant.
Lisls daughters Christina and Susanne followed in their mothers footsteps, and both have now long been an indispensable part of the establishment. Together they help turn every guests visit to Landhaus Bacher into a one-of-a-kind experience.
Thomas Dorfer
Theres a reason Thomas Dorfer is known as Austrias answer to Andreas Caminada. Just as charming as they are talented, both of them who actually share a close, personal friendship stem from the same generation of young chefs who are known for courageously going off the beaten path to make their own way.
The relaxed, innovative way the chef, who was born in 1975, works in the kitchen is most likely due to the fact that he didnt grow up in a restaurant setting. His father was a trained pastry chef and railway official, his mother a housewife and yet Austrian cuisine always played an important role in his childhood home.
Today, his provocative motto is a contemporary, creative cuisine, perfectly prepared with the best products, is modern enough.
After his culinary training, the native of Carinthia earned his stripes competing in cooking competitions and perfected his culinary skills during stints at some of the worlds most renowned restaurants from Australia to St. Moritz.

The Pinnacle of Nouvelle Cuisine
At Landhaus Bacher, we have offered impeccable meals for four decades. Lisl Wagner-Bacher took over the guest house from her parents in 1979 and was awarded her first Gault Millau chefs hat only three years later. The second followed one year after that, as well as the title 1983 Chef of the Year.
The third chefs hat came in 1988 and, in 1991, Landhaus Bacher was awarded the Trophée Gourmet for Creative Cuisine from A la Carte, where the restaurant has held the top spot in Austria for several years, having earned 99 out of 100 points. In the 2004/2005 Michelin Guide, Landhaus Bacher was awarded two Michelin stars right off the bat.
Stepson Thomas Dorfer, the new Head Chef and 2009 Chef of the Year, brings his own fresh ideas into the kitchen, as he has done for several years.
In doing so, he remains true to the course set by his stepmother Lisl Wagner-Bacher, yet keeps the restaurants cuisine modern by adding his own contemporary touches. Which means that, in the coming years, Landhaus Bacher is bound to stay just like it is today: committed to Austrian culinary traditions and yet exciting and innovative.
