The Hotel Londra Palace stands along the Riva degli Schiavoni, just a few steps from St. Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace. The reflection of its white Istria stone façade shimmers in the Lagoon. Its 53 rooms, each of them unique, offer enchanting views of St. Mark’s Basin and the city. The style of the original Biedermeier furnishings creates an elegant, relaxed atmosphere, untouched by the spirit of time. The discovery of a rare, authentic Venice begins here.

The original core building dates back to 1853. Then it was called the Hotel d’Angleterre & Pension, and later the Londres. In 1865 the Beau Rivage was built in ‘neolombardesque’ style, connected to the Hotel d’Angleterre by an adjoining structure. The hotel’s present appearance is the result of the roof being raised during the 1950s and the more recent renovations of the façade and internal public areas. It was given the name ‘Londra Palace’ in the seventies. One of the hotel’s most famous guests was the Russian composer Petr Il’lc Tchaikovsky who stayed here in December 1877. In room 106 he composed the first three movements of Symphony No. 4, originally entitled ‘Do Leoni’. Gabriele D’Annunzio stayed here in 1887, when he attended the unveiling of the monument built in front of the hotel in honour of King Vittorio Emanuele II. Other important names include Jorge Luis Borges and Iosif Brodskij, recipient of the Nobel Prize for literature.

The Hotel Londra Palace has a characteristic trait. Each of its 53 rooms is different from the others. All offer hospitality combining the charm of a historic Hotel, thanks to the style of the Biedermeier furnishings and the fabric-covered walls, with the comfort and technology of modern life, including satellite TV, wireless Internet connection, mini bar. Rooms are divided into three categories according to their size and view, overlooking the city or the Lagoon.

Rooms and suites

The Classic rooms offer between 18 and 22 square metres of space and overlook the city of Venice. The view lends a relaxing atmosphere to these rooms, a trait that is especially appreciated by those who love elegant intimacy.

The Deluxe Rooms offer between 18 and 22 square metres of space and overlook St. Mark’s Basin. Admiring the view of the Lagoon is like looking at a living painting, making a stay in these rooms a unique experience.

The Junior Suites offer between 28 and 32 square metres of space and overlook St. Mark’s Basin. One of these suites has a balcony, another has a terrace, yet another has a luxury whirlpool bathtub.

The Do Leoni Restaurant, a tribute to the symbols of England and Venice, is an object of pride at the Hotel Londra Palace and is also open to guests not staying at the hotel. Its cuisine and the ambience of its rooms have made it a point of reference for gourmets from all over the world. The Chef Loris Indri combines Venetian classical traditions with the most sophisticated dishes, capable of surprising even the most refined palates. Rave reviews have been published this year by the Italian food and wine magazine Gambero Rosso and by the Michelin guide.

The culinary arts are enhanced by the elegant interior dining room, decorated with artistic glasswork and original paintings, and the summer veranda on the Riva degli Schiavoni.

The lounge areas, whose rational design is embellished with crystal and precious fabrics, swim in light. Transparency is the keynote in this elegant environment, where an original letter written by Tchaikovsky to his benefactress Nadezhda Von Meck is etched on a glass pane. The second musical theme, noted at the bottom, is the transcription of a piece the Russian musician listened to during a stay at what was then the Hotel d’Angleterre, in the December of 1877.
The ‘Do Leoni’, which renders homage to the symbols of England and Venice, is the pride of the Londra Palace, and outside guests are also welcome. It cuisine and atmosphere make the restaurant a reference point for gourmets from all over the world. The Chef, Loris Indri, combines the traditions of classic Venetian fare with more elaborate dishes that delight even the most refined palates.
